Colombo, May 6 (NewsWire) – The Road Development Authority (RDA) has commenced calling for tenders for the construction of flyovers within Colombo to ease traffic congestion.
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal submitted by Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando to construct flyovers in a bid to ease traffic congestion across the country, and mainly in Colombo.

As per the proposal, two flyovers will be constructed from Justice Akbar Mawatha and Uttarananda Mawatha via the Slave Island Railway Road. Another flyover will be constructed to connect the two flyovers.
The flyover that will be constructed from Justice Akbar Mawatha will be 207 meters in length and 8.4 meters in width.
The flyover to be constructed from Uttarananda Mawatha will be 396 meters in length and 10.4 meters in width.
The connecting flyover will be 310 meters in length and 6.9 meters in width.
The Ministry of Highways said the flyovers will be constructed for a cost of Rs. 5270 million.
Meanwhile, another flyover will also be constructed from Baladhaksha Mawatha to Chiththampala A. Gardiner Mawatha via the Beira Lake and the Slave Island Railway Road.
The flyover which is 360 meters in length and 11 meters in width will be constructed for a cost of Rs. 2730 million.
The Ministry of Highways said it has been proposed to construct all four flyovers within the next 12 months.
