The woman, Sanjana, and her husband, Suresh Bahadur, are daily wagers living near Raj Bhavan in Ooty. On Wednesday, Sanjana was admitted to the Ooty government hospital, where she gave birth to her second child on Saturday, and immediately underwent a family planning operation.
As per procedure, she was then given drips and while removing the equipment, the hospital staff realised that the cannula needle broke and got stuck inside her vein.
The hospital staff alerted Sanjana’s family and said she required surgery for its removal and must be taken to Coimbatore government hospital.
However, Sanjana’s relatives were upset to see her suffering in pain and accused the hospital staff of being lethargic and ignorant. The relatives raised a complaint with the police, who transported Sanjana to the Coimbatore hospital.
Doctors had to struggle for 30 minutes to remove the broken needle from her vein and save her life.
The patient’s vitals are now stable, according to medical reports from the Coimbatore hospital.
