Oct 10 (AdaDerana) – Sri Lanka is planning to roll out Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines as the third dose for fully vaccinated people above 20 years of age, according to the State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals.
Necessary measures have been taken to place a purchase order for 14.5 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, Prof. Channa Jayasumana said further.

Reportedly, the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation has entered an agreement with Pfizer Inc. yesterday for the procurement of more of its COVID-19 vaccines.
“As the first phase of this vaccination program, we will administer a third dose for those who are aged above 60 years and suffer from co-morbidities as well as to health workers and members of security forces.”
Speaking on the inoculation drive for children, the state minister said Pfizer doses will be rolled out at school premises for students in Advanced Level classes. Regional Directors of Health and District Epidemiologists have been given necessary instructions in this regard, he added.
One million more doses of the Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Sri Lanka in the coming three weeks and more batches are expected to arrive in November and December, the state minister said further.
