Colombo, December 23 (newsin.asia) – The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka crossed the 38,000 mark yesterday (22) as another 427 new cases had been detected within the day.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases stands at 38,059 with 8,576 active cases across the island according to the Health Promotion Bureau. 29,300 cases have recovered so far.
Seven COVID-19 related deaths were reported yesterday according to the Director-General of Health Services which brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in the country to 183.
Lalith Weeratunga who is the President’s Chief Advisor has been assigned to overlook the coordination process of importing Covid-19 vaccine the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
Sri Lanka also suspended flights from United Kingdom starting today due to the emergence of a new variant of COVID-19 and announced that the existing procedure of obtaining prior approval from the Foreign Ministry and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for all inbound travelers to Sri Lanka will continue.
