Colombo, January 25 (newsin.asia) – The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka crossed the 58,000 mark yesterday (24) as another 841 new cases had been detected within the day.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases stands at 58,430 with 8,463 active cases across the island according to the Health Promotion Bureau. The number of recovered and discharged cases has increased to 49,684.
Three COVID-19 related deaths were reported yesterday (24) according to the Department of Government Information which brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in the country to 283.
While MPs Dayasiri Jayasekara, Rauff Hakeem, and Vasudeva Nanayakkara have recovered now and left the Covid treatment facility, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, State Minister Piyal Nishantha and Kandy district MP Wasantha Yapa Bandara have tested positive for COVID-19.
Sri Lanka’s coronavirus vaccine drive is scheduled to commence from January 28, after receiving the first stock of vaccines on January 27, according to the State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply, and Regulation Prof. Channa Jayasumana.
The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) yesterday granted approval for the emergency use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in Sri Lanka.
