Colombo, July 29 (NewsWire) – The Government yesterday commenced the COVID-19 vaccination drive for Sri Lankans waiting to travel overseas for employment.
The Covid vaccine was administered to those registered with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).
The vaccination drive was launched at the Army Hospital located in Narahenpita to provide the Pfizer Covid vaccine to nearly 1200 selected people.
Minister of Labour Nimal Siripala De Silva said the vaccine will be provided initially to Sri Lankans waiting to travel overseas for employment from the Western Province.
The SLBFE said close to 8000 Sri Lankans who are waiting to travel overseas for employment will be provided the vaccine.
The Government has decided to provide the Pfizer vaccine to the selected group as many countries have permitted access only to only those who have received the said vaccine.
