December 8 (India Today) – Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher tore into Paul Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola after the latter said the Manchester United star is unhappy at Old Trafford and wants to leave the Premier League club in the upcoming transfer window. Carragher was seemingly annoyed after Raiola’s startling interview to Italian newspaper Tuttosport.
Carragher said both Pogba and Raiola are a “disgrace” and Manchester United should rather get the France World Cup-winner out. Carragher’s comments came after Raiola was quoted as saying by the Italian newspaper that Pogba wants to leave the club and it’s better if United sell him in the summer window. Raiola’s comments came a day ahead of United’s all-important Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig.
Carragher pointed out that Manchester United dealt with a similar situation when Cristiano Ronaldo was on the verge of joining Real Madrid but said Pogba is not worth such ‘hassle’. Pogba joined Manchester United in 2016 for a record fee but the French midfielder has not been able to fulfill his potential at Manchester. He has played only 8 Premier League matches in the ongoing season and has started only in 5 of them.
“Get rid! I’ve been saying this for 12 months. The most overrated player I’ve ever seen in my life! I think the two of them are a disgrace. We’ll all look at the agent now and ask Pogba what he thinks… So Pogba will be well aware of what was going to come out of his mouth. And if he wasn’t, he should sack his agent,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“It’s very, very simple. That’s all that needs to happen. I mean I don’t know where he is going to go who’s going to have him? I don’t get it?
“Remember a few years ago, everyone knew that Ronaldo was going to Real Madrid but United had to put up with it because he was worth the hassle. Pogba is not worth the hassle. Get rid of him.
“There are only two clubs better than United and that’s Barca and Real Madrid. And when I say better I mean players (leaving) you can understand as they are the pinnacle of club football. Have to accept that. There is no chance in the world that Real Madrid or Barca will buy him. I’ll be flabbergasted again if they come in.”
Raiola claimed that Pogba won’t sign a new contract when his current one expires in June 2022. The high-profile agent said United should look to sell in the summer window to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires.
