New Delhi, March 5: As part of an initiative to create awareness about the rich history of the magnificent gaur, the Pathfinder Collection commissioned talented artist Dillai Joseph Rodrigo to do a painting of the Sri Lankan gaur in its natural setting.
The gaur, which is the largest species of the world’s wild cattle, existed in Sri Lanka from ancient times and has left its mark in Sri Lankan folklore and name places. However, over time and for unknown reasons, the animal was eventually extirpated by the end of the 17th century.
The gaur, though, still thrives in the wild in India. There have been recent initiatives on how Sri Lanka and India can jointly collaborate on investigating this shared natural heritage.
