Colombo, March 31 (newsin.asia): The 15-day Sri Lanka-Pakistan army joint field training exercise Shake Hands -1 ended on Tuesday with a ceremony in the presence of the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Major General (Retd) Muhammad Saad Khattak and the Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army of Sri Lanka General Shavendra Silva.
The Sri Lankan Gajaba Regiment (GR)-led ‘Shake Hands – 1′ was held at the GR Regimental Centre in Saliyapura. The exercise had the participation of six officers and 35 other ranks from the Pakistan Army and four officers and 40 other ranks from the Sri Lanka Army. The exercise aimed at enhancing bilateral Defense relations and mutually sharing of rich experience of the two armies against terrorism.
General Shavendra Silva said that Pakistan has to-date remained a true friend of Sri Lanka during all her critical endeavors and has always stood with Sri Lanka. Specially, Pakistan supported Sri Lanka in the UNHRC recently. Mementos were exchanged at the event to show both countries’ appreciation.
