Colombo, February 3 (newsin.asia) – The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka crossed the 65,000 mark yesterday (2) as another 715 new cases had been detected within the day.
The total number of individuals who have received the first dose of the vaccine against the COVID-19 pandemic so far now stands at 118,767, the Ministry of Health stated.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases stands at 65,698 with 6,325 active cases across the island according to the Health Promotion Bureau. The number of recovered and discharged cases has increased to 59,043.
Seven COVID-19 related deaths were reported yesterday (2) according to the Director-General of Health Services which brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths recorded in the country to 330.
Health officers of the Colombo Municipal Council have begun conducting random Rapid Antigen Tests across Colombo city and this will continue until further notice.
A total of nearly 150,000 health workers, 120,000 members of Tri-Forces, Police, and security forces who are at the frontline of COVID-19 prevention operations are expected to receive the vaccine. The next priority will be citizens above the age of 60, who suffer from non-communicable diseases.
