January 26 (India Today) – India reported 9,102 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the health update by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday morning. This is the lowest daily spike the country reported after 8 months. With the fresh Covid-19 cases, the tally has now mounted to 10,676,838.
Moreover, with 117 deaths related to the novel coronavirus infection, total fatality in the country has surged to 153,587.
India currently has 177,266 active cases and 10,345,985 people have been recovered and discharged so far.
On Monday, Delhi recorded 148 fresh Covid-19 cases — the lowest in 9 months, even as the positivity rate stood at 0.31 per cent, news agency PTI quoted authorities as saying. This is for the fourth time that the number of daily cases stood below the 200-mark in January. Meanwhile, the infection tally in the city rose to 6.34 lakh and the death toll mounted to 10,813 with five new fatalities, the authorities said on Monday.
In West Bengal, the Covid-19 tally rose to 568,355 as 252 more people tested positive for the infection, while seven fresh fatalities pushed the states coronavirus death toll to 10,122, a health bulletin said. As many as 417 more people have been cured of the disease, taking the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state to 97.14 per cent, it said.
As on January 25, a total of 1,950,183 people have been vaccinated so far, the health ministry said. India had kicked off the world’s largest vaccination drive on January 16.
