Colombo, July 19 (newsin.asia): India has refuted Sri Lankan media reports of an Indian Submarine being permanently stationed in Thoothukudi (previously known as Tuticorin) on the Tamil Nadu coast facing Sri Lanka. The Indian High Commission said in a press release on Monday that the reports are “speculative”
Responding to a query on reports about the deployment of a submarine in Thootukudi (formerly Tuticorin) in Tamil Nadu, Sri Lankan journalist Rifthi Ali, Editor of Vidiyal.lk, the spokesperson of the High Commission of India said: “We have seen media reports regarding a purported ‘permanent deployment’ of an Indian Navy submarine at Thoothukudi in India. These speculative media reports also ascribed certain reasons for the purported deployment. The High Commission does not comment on such operational matters, including those that pertain to the Indian Navy. However, decisions regarding the deployment of submarines or other national assets by India are taken by the Indian authorities concerned in line with several factors, such as operational requirements, so as to fully serve the objective of protecting India and her interests.”
