Colombo, March 11 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lanka Presidents office confirms the first Sri Lankan within Sri Lanka infected with Covid – 19 (Coronavirus), a 52 year old male from the tourism sector, found & now being treated at IDH Hospital.
Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera noted that initial tests have confirmed that the patient had contracted Covid-19.
Inspections have been launched to identify the individuals that this patient has had contacts with and the places where the tourist group accompanied by him had travelled to.
Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, said the tour operator had worked with an Italian tourist group who were recently on holiday and information gathering had now begun.
“The patient has been sent for the quarantine process. The government has initiated gathering information regarding the patient, where he traveled in the country with the Italian group and the persons who had come into contact with him with,” Dr Jasinghe said.
The passengers who arrive in the country from Italy, South Korea and Iran are now sent for a 14-day quarantine starting from yesterday.
