Sri Lanka also registered 32 more Covid-19 related deaths yesterday, the Director-General of Health Services confirmed. The victims have succumbed to the virus infection on Sunday (4).
Accordingly, the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 3,268 as of now.
Meanwhile, the low number of reported cases is due to the delays and decreased testing due to strikes of health sector trade unions, Head of National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) General Shavendra Silva said.
The trade union action launched by several trade unions linked to the health sector today could make things related to COVID-19 worse in the country leaving health services in a fix, the Health authorities pointed out.
Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said the vaccination programme had been somewhat hampered due to the trade union action.
