New Delhi, March 18 (newsin.asia): Arindam Bagchi will be the new spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in India, sources said. He replaces Anurag Srivastava who becomes Joint Secretary (North).
Both Bagchi and Srivastava had served in Colombo earlier, with Bagchi having been Deputy High Commissioner. Bagchi was previously Ambassador in Croatia.
He will be the first Bengali spokespersons of the ministry. The appointment came just before the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
Bagchi is a 1995 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service.
He will replace Anurag Srivastava who will be the next Joint Secretary (North).
Bagchi has served as India’s Ambassador to Croatia and Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Prime Minister’s Office during the term of Manmohan Singh.
Bagchi is a probasi Bengali. His father was Indian administrative officer from Assam cadre. He spent a few months in Kolkata but later came to Delhi.
