Colombo, March 24 (NIA) – The President of the German Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert accompanied by a Parliamentary delegation is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in April on an invitation by Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the Sri Lanka Parliament.
The Foreign Ministry in a statement said the President of the German Bundestag, appreciated the achievements of the Sri Lankan government and has stated that he decided to visit Sri Lanka out of so many other countries in recognition of Sri Lanka’s achievements on re-establishment of democracy and human rights.
Lammert further stated that Germany appreciated the path Sri Lanka has taken so far in achieving democracy and is looking forward to the upcoming visit to Sri Lanka to share Germany’s experiences and to develop closer relations between the two Parliaments.
Apart from the official discussions with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Karu Jayasuriya, Norbert Lammert is also scheduled to meet President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and civil society members of the country.
