Colombo, May 6 (NIA) – India’s renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik will create the World’s
largest sand sculpture on Lord Buddha in Sri Lanka next week in commemoration of the International Vesak Day celebrations which are to be held in the island country.
The sand artist will be assisted by five of his students, Indian media reports said.
“Today I am going Colombo. I will create World’s longest #SandBuddha at 14th International Vesak Day Celebrations in #SriLanka,” the artist tweeted on Saturday.
The ‘Sand Sculpture on Life of Buddha’ will be open to the public from May 10 to May 14 at the Diwannawa Zone, near the Parliament in Battaramulla.
Public can visit the sand exhibition and witness the longest sand sculpture on Lord Buddha from 10 am to 7 pm.
Pattnaik won the gold medal at the 10th Moscow Sand Art Championship which was held from April 22 to April 28 at Kolomenskoye, Moscow in Russia.
Last year, Pattnaik won a gold medal in Moscow for his sand sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi on ‘World peace.’
The International Vesak Day celebrations will be held in Sri Lanka from May 12 to 14. The grand celebrations which be officially opened by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will arrive in Sri Lanka on May 11.
This is the first time the event is being held in Sri Lanka and several high ranking officials from many countries are expected to attend the events.
