Jan 31 (newsin.asia) – The Global Game Jam Sri Lanka will take place this weekend from the 31st Jan to the 2nd Feb in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is organized by Le Fantastical Holdings ( Pvt ) Ltd and Prodigi Interactive ( Pvt ) Ltd which will be held at the LeF Jam Pad in Rajagiriya.
It is a 48-hour game development hackathon which will begin at 3PM on the 31st of January and go on till the 2nd of February.
The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal.
The structure of a jam is usually that everyone gathers on Friday late afternoon, watches a short video keynote with advice from leading game developers, and then a secret theme is announced. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on that same theme, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon.
The first Global Game Jam® was held in January 2009 with 1600 people jamming in 23 countries. In 2019, the event has grown to 860 sites in 113 countries with over 47,000 jammers who collectively made over 9,000 games! In January 2019, we had 860 locations in 113 countries create 9,010 games in one weekend!
Global Game Jam Sri Lanka is powered by GAMEROAR, one of Sri Lanka’s largest independent game developer communities as well as THRETA LABS, Prodigi Interactive’s Game Development Studio. In addition, Global Game Jam Sri Lanka has partnered with E-wis computers (tech partner), Lanka Comic Con (ecosystem partner), PULSE ( online media partner ), Facebook Developer Circles ( community partner ) and REDBULL Sri Lanka ( energy partner) respectively for the event.
In addition, there will be board games, game talk panels and mentor keynotes that will benefit the independent developers taking part in the game jam.
