March 28 (newsin.asia) – Best actor nominee Will Smith appeared to smack presenter Chris Rock in the face with an open hand and shouted a vulgarity at the comedian for making a joke about his wife’s appearance at the Oscars ceremony.
Will Smith won Best Actor for King Richard at the Oscars just moments after he stormed the stage to slap Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.
“Keep my wife’s name out your f**cking mouth,” he yelled from his seat.
Smith later apologised in a tearful best actor acceptance speech. “I want to apologise to the Academy. I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees,” Smith said after winning the first Oscar of his career for playing the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams in King Richard.
“Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.”
