August 8 (The New Nation) – The total number of Covid-19 cases so far in the country reached 2,52,502 with 2,851 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The current infection rate is 22.45 percent and the total infection rate stands at 20.40 percent, said Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, during a briefing today.
Meanwhile, 27 people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll due to Covid-19 in the country has reached 3,333 and the death rate now stands at 1.32 percent.
A total of 12,699 samples were tested in 84 labs across the country in the last 24 hours.
Bangladesh is currently 15th in the list of worst affected countries in the world in terms of the number of cases.
The position is one step ahead of Italy and one step behind Pakistan, according to worldometer.info.
Meanwhile, 1,760 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries stands at 1,45,584 and the recovery rate at 57.66 percent.
Eight hundred and fifteen people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, the DGHS official added during the briefing.
Among the deceased, 24 were male and three were female while four were within 41-50 years old, six between 51-60, 12 between 61-70, four were within 71-80 and one was 81-90 year old.
