Colombo, Feb 3 (newsin.asia) – Service to the public is such an integral part of any society. Giving back and assisting the people around you is the basis of voluntary community service.
This is the story of the silent Knights (TSK) whose founding member, Nuzly Hameem, keeps us updated on their latest developments.
What are The Silent Knights?
We found that the immediate society around us has a surprising demand for community services in areas that are less concentrated and highlighted upon. This prompted us to use an appropriate and versatile platform like Twitter to educate the Sri Lankan Twitter community on common public needs and in unison brainstorm solutions to implement in order to lend a helping hand, to where it is needed.
Tell us about your team?
We are a team of three co-founders. I am backed up by Nihad Hussain & Zaman Alferoz. We are full-time corporate employees who connected as a result of the Twitter expedition.
It started as a Secret Santa event that was the brainchild of Nihadh executed back in November 2021 over Twitter which was the initiation of our journey. We learnt that we each had ideas that could be the start of something new & big.
With time forward, we felt the need for more manpower in order to establish in full force. This is when we got Huzefa Hamid as one of our Event Coordinators & Dr Shazna Nawaz as a content writer who whipped up this article as well, onboard our team.
Tell us about your latest project?
It was our second step-in into society and the enthusiasm got us to put our hearts and souls into making it a success. The preparation for the campaign felt more personal than a mere project as it was a long-standing passion of one of our crew members.
According to the central blood bank, around 20 individuals walk in every day, to donate blood with the number splurging to around 50-150 participants when campaigns are arranged.
Blood is usually stored for 42 days after the collection, but most of these are consumed within two weeks due to the high demand for blood products hence the stores need frequent replenishing.
Our first step was to reach out to probable cooperate supporters and public figures to aid in boosting the morale of the campaign. We also set our targets to a realistic number of about 100 donors from each city.
The help we looked for did not come as effortlessly as we expected which forced us to readjust our goals and slash the numbers in half.
The more the merrier so we joined hands with a fellow non-profit organization, The Open Gate from Kandy, for the extra oomph and also extend the event not only in Colombo but also in Kandy.
We were overjoyed by the ultimate outcomes.
The campaign in Colombo which was held at the Central Blood Bank, Narahenpita on the 8th of January 2022 secured 80 donors whereas Kandy on the 13th January harvested a total of 60 donors, which was beyond our expectations.
What does the future hold for The Silent Knights?
We are focused on slowly moving forward with small strides as we are a relatively small group but we have a fully-fledged event calendar drawn up for the year 2022 including social events and fundraisers to help in our future projects in social service.
Our next immediate goal is to expand our team with young blood who have similar interests in giving back to our society. As such, we are on the lookout for graphic designers, photographers and content creators.
We have an exciting event scheduled for the 12th of February with a valentine’s theme which we are fully stoked for.
It is a “singles night” for all the singles out there. we open doors to all at 7.00 pm at Bakes by Bella.
Reserve your spot now and join us for some pre-valentine fun!
Keep an eye out on their latest developments!
