Chennai, February 19 (AIR): After lengthy negotiations, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has signed an alliance with the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
The pact was signed between PMK founder S Ramadoss and AIADMK coordinator and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam at a private hotel in Chennai on Tuesday.
Those present on the occasion were: PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, his son and MP Anbumani Ramadoss, senior leader GK Mani and Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.
State ministers including S.Velumani, P Thangamani and D Jayakumar were also present at the talks.
With the inking of the deal, the PMK will be part of the rainbow coalition led by the AIADMK that is set to include the BJP and likely Vijayakant’s DMDK.
The formation of the alliance comes hours after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Amit Shah was forced to cancel his visit to Chennai owing to the difficult negotiations between the AIADMK and the PMK.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal will be arriving in Chennai and will be holding talks with AIADMK leaders and the PMK later in the day.
This will be the second round of talks led by Piyush Goyal, who was in Chennai on February 14 for discussions on the alliance.
