September 18 (Ada Derana) – The 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq and the head of the Dawoodi Bohra community, His Holiness Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS, offered a donation of LKR 10 million as humanitarian assistance to the National Kidney Fund of Sri Lanka to enhance facilities and improve welfare and preventive care for patients impacted by Chronic Kidney Disease.
On receiving this contribution, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, thanked Syedna Saifuddin for joining the government in the fight against chronic kidney disease of unknown origin (CKDu) which is considered a public health emergency and is affecting rural communities in Sri Lanka.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), CKDu has emerged as a significant contributor to the burden of chronic kidney disease in rural Sri Lanka. To accelerate priority action on this serious public health problem, the Sri Lankan government is working closely with the WHO and other non-governmental organisations for prevention and treatment of CKDu while alleviating the suffering of those affected and their families.
Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin recently met with President Maithripala Sirisena during the fourth Ashara Mubaraka sermon in Colombo. During his address to the gathering, the President had emphasized the immediate need for poverty alleviation and bringing peace to the island nation.
