Colombo, June 28 (newsin.asia) – A Sri Lankan army female soldier was awarded the silver medal at an international invention exhibition held in South Korea earlier this week, for her innovative and creative product of ‘Efficient Incinerator for Safe Disposal of Sanitary Pad and Other Bio Waste at Women’s Living Facility’, the Sri Lanka Army said in a statement Friday.
The Sri Lankan solider, Lance Corporal J.C.I Nishanthi of the 5 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) won the silver medal at the ‘Korea International Women’s Invention Exposition 2019 (KIWIE)’, beating hundreds of innovations presented at the event by more than 38 countries in the world.
The soldier’s creative innovation was first exposed in the ‘Sahasak Nimavum 2018’, a Sri Lankan invention and innovation exhibition organized by the Sri Lanka Inventors’ Commission (SLIC) where she won the gold medal.
Her invention was then presented in Seoul, South Korea for the ‘Korea International Women’s Invention Exposition 2019 (KIWIE)’, where she won second place, the army said.
The SLIC said the solider’s invention suits international standards which is why it was submitted for the Korean exhibition.
Lance Corporal Nishanthi arrived back in Sri Lanka last Wednesday after winning her medal and was presented a grand welcome at the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport.
Lieutenant Colonel Saman Hettiarachchi, Volunteer Coord SLAWC, Lieutenant Colonel Viraj Karunaratne, Staff Officer, Research Analysis Projection and Development Branch (RAP & D Br), Major Nayomi Rathnayake, Staff Officer (Additional), Regimental Headquarters SLAWC and several other woman soldiers were present at the airport to welcome her back.
