Colombo, May 11 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, on Friday congratulated his Malaysian counterpart Dr Mahathir Mohamad at his victory at the recently concluded general elections.
In a letter sent to Mahathir, Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka and Malaysia enjoyed a traditional and longstanding friendship which had reached new dimensions.
“I am confident that these close and cordial relations will be further strengthened and consolidated in the years ahead for the mutual benefit of our countries,” Wickremesinghe said.
Dr. Mohamad was sworn in as the world’s oldest prime minister late on Thursday evening, making an extraordinary political comeback as Malaysia’s leader at the age of 92.
He came out of retirement and defected to the opposition to take on and beat former Prime Minister Najib Razak.
