Colombo, Sept 27 (NIA) – The remains of a a high profile Sri Lankan editor and journalist, Lasantha Wickremetunga was exhumed by investigators on Tuesday in order to conduct a fresh probe into his murder.
The remains were exhumed amidst tight security, following an order issued by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court earlier this month, considering a request made by the Criminal Investigations Department.
The reason for exhumation is to determine the exact cause of his death.

Wickremetunga, who was the editor of the local Sunday Leader newspaper, was shot dead while driving to work in January 2009 by a group of unidentified men in a high security zone, in broad daylight.
He was an investigative journalist who wrote about government corruption and a sharp critic of the former government of Mahinda Rajapakse, who has denied any role in the editor’s killing.
