State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said the government was compelled to issue a deadline because it was not possible to continue to operate vaccination centres so long for them as they need to give next priority to provide vaccines for youth and adolescents.
“A vast number of people above 30 have received their doses. Still there is a group of people who have forgone the vaccine due to various reasons,” he underscored.
“We cannot keep the vaccination centres open every day. Therefore, such group of people is invited to receive their vaccines within this week as we want to complete the vaccination drive for people above 30 within this week,” the State Minister said.
He said the vaccination drive for people above 30 was supposed to be completed last week. However, one more week had been given for the unvaccinated people to get jabbed.
