Colombo, Nov 23 (NIA) – The Sri Lankan government has proposed to set up a ‘Serious Fraud Office’ in the island country to fight corruption, a minister said here on Wednesday.
Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilleke said that until such time the Office is set up, the government had paid its attention on restructuring the anti-corruption institutional structure,
Karunathilleke said that the proposed fully powered Serious Fraud Office in Sri Lanka would be similar to the Serious Frauds Office in the United Kingdom.
Accordingly, the proposal made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, to continue the operations of the anti corruption committee secretariat which was established in 2015 until such a Serious Fraud Office is introduced, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
