Colombo, June 10 (newsin.asia) – Chief Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya announced today that the Parliamentary General Election will be held on August 5.
Initially, the election was scheduled for April 25 which was got postponed for June 20 due to the pandemic.
It has now been further delayed because of the precautions needed to be taken to avoid the spread of the contagion.
In a brief statement, Deshapriya said that “various politicians” had been alleging that the Commission was delaying the election. The poll will be conducted under strict Health Department regulations.
He said, “the purpose of the Commission is to hold elections and we have been doing our best to hold the poll.”
