Colombo, March 17 (newsin.asia) – The future of all nations lie in the hands and power of its youth, their attitudes and beliefs. In order to see the light of a brighter and sustainable future, it is of utmost importance to ensure that the future of our country, that is the youth, who are the prospective future leaders who decide the path ahead of the nation, grows and is groomed with the right attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge.
With just a decade left to achieve the Global Goals set by the United Nations and with the burning desire to mold the future in the right path was the main guiding force why AIESEC Sri Lanka, the world’s largest youth-run organization, implemented the program, Island-wide World’s Largest Lesson. The program focused on teaching 10,000+ youth in 49 schools on Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), how they can contribute to achieving sustainable development in the country and why SDGs are of importance to Sri Lanka, on the 2nd of March 2020.
With the approval and support of the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka and with the strength of 590 volunteers from universities including University of Colombo, Moratuwa, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Peradeniya, Rajarata, Jaffna, SLIIT and NSBM, AIESEC was able to create awareness about the Global Goals which addresses issues pertaining to the Environment, Society and Economy, island-wide. This is of no doubt the biggest national project undertaken by AIESEC Sri Lanka up-to-date, offering an extremely strong initiation towards sustainability for the year ahead.
The impact made via the project reached 11,000+ individuals, which in fact showcases the capacity the youth in Sri Lanka possess in contributing towards the betterment of the nation. This immense impact was made by the selfless & passionate members of AIESEC signifying the potential that the rest of the youth has and is yet to be utilized in uplifting the nation in various means and of course in a sustainable manner.
“We believe this initiation would boost the interest of the youth in our country to join hands to serve the nation in many projects and movements to be executed in the near future, which will allow us to move forward along with the rest of the world to achieve the Global Goals by the year 2030.”
