Colombo, April 4 (NIA) – Sri Lanka has been warned to expect warmer temperatures as the sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of the island from April 5 to 15, according to a weather report from the Department of Meteorology released on Tuesday.
The nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead on April 5 are the southern areas of Hambantota, Katudampe, Nakiyadeniya and Maliduwa.
Temperatures are expected to rise to 35 degrees, especially in the north of country while temperatures in capital Colombo are expected to rise to 33 degrees, according to Accu Weather.
Last year too, Sri Lanka faced severe heat during the months of April and May with the government ordering all state schools to defer outdoor sports events till end of April or May.
The reason given was severe warm weather.
