Aug 17 (NIA) – Sri Lanka, on Wednesday, beat Australia in the third and final Test match by 163 runs and secured a historic clean sweep of the three match series.
The Sri Lankans, who won the first and second Test matches, beat the Australians by 163 runs at the Sinhalese Sports Club grounds, in capital Colombo.
After winning the toss, the Sri Lankans decided to bat first scoring 355 runs in their first innings with Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva scoring centuries.
For the Australian side, Mitchell Starc took five wickets while Nathon Lyon took three wickets.
The Australians scored 379 runs in their first innings with Shaun Marsh and captain Steven Smith scoring centuries.
Sri Lanka’s popular bowler Rangana Herath took six wickets.
Australia fell short of the target in their second innings and made just 160 runs with Herath taking 7 wickets giving Sri Lanka the win and the series.
This is the first time that the Sri Lankan cricket team have won all three games in a three match Test series against Australia.
Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath was named man of the match.
