Colombo, Nov 9 (NIA) – South Asian leaders, on Wednesday congratulated, the new US President – elect, Donald J Trump for his victory at the Presidential Election.
The leaders, in congratulatory messages sent to Trump, hours after his victory, said that they looked forward to working closely with the new US President.
“Congratulations @realDonaldTrump on being elected as the 45th US President,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on his official twitter account.
“We look forward to working with you closely to take India-US bilateral ties to a new height.”
Modi further appreciated the friendship that Trump had articulated towards India during his election campaign.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, while congratulating Trump in his historic win said that Trump’s path to the White House had indeed been truly remarkable.
“We look forward to working closely with you and your team,” Wickremesinghe said.
Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena congratulated Trump on what he called a ‘historic win’.
Maldives President, Abdulla Yameen, said that the Maldives looked to further strengthen the existing ties of friendship and cooperation with the US.
In his congratulatory message, Yameen said that the Maldives and the US enjoyed warm relations of friendship and understanding based on mutual respect and goodwill.
“I remain confident that the existing ties of friendship and cooperation between our two countries will continue and further strengthen under your able leadership,” Yameen said.
“I also look forward to working with you not only to develop closer relations between our countries but also to concert on advancement of global interests common to our countries.”
