Colombo, March 17 (newsin.asia) – Sports Minister, Dayasiri Jayasekara, on Saturday said his Ministry will take ‘necessary action’ against the damage of property caused at the R Premadasa Cricket Stadium following the conclusion of the SLvsBan cricket match played on Friday night.
Jayasekara told newsin.asia that he had not yet assessed the damage but his Ministry together with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board would launch an immediate probe into the incident.
“Necessary action will be taken against those responsible,” Jayasekara said.
Media reports alleged that the the dressing room of the Bangladeshi players was severely damaged after celebrations went wrong following the victory of Bangladesh in the knock out match of the Nidahas Trophy 2018 played in Colombo.
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the ground staff at R. Premadasa Stadium have been requested to study the CCTV footage to find out who caused the damage in the Bangladesh dressing room during the final group game.
A window of the visitors’ dressing room was found damaged after Bangladesh’s tense run chase against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh won the game by two wickets following a thrilling final over.
The ground staff had reported the damage to match referee Chris Broad, but were not sure who had done it. Broad then had asked the local officials to go through the CCTV footage to find out who had caused the damage.
