Colombo, Nov 16 (newsin.asia) – Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday opened the Shangri-La Hotel, in capital Colombo, built in front of the Galle Face Green.
The hotel is the 101 st hotel from the chain of Shangri-La Hotels world-wide.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesighe, government officials, politicians and industry leaders were some of the guests who were invited, to watch the hotel’s grand opening by President Sirisena.
This landmark project is expected to boost Sri Lanka’s tourism and attract larger crowds into capital Colombo including the business and MICE travelers.
The hotel will also soon accommodate an office tower, two residential buildings and a high-end shopping mall.
Shangri La Colombo consists of 541 rooms including 10 two bedroom apartments, 31 one bedroom apartments, 34 suites and 1 presidential suite. The apartment rooms include a kitchenette, a washing machine and several other luxury and basic amenities.
The rooms also provide the best view in Colombo, with their front rooms overlooking the Indian Ocean and their behind rooms over looking the Beira Lake and the beautiful Colombo city.
The hotel also includes some deluxe rooms designed especially for its customers with disabilities. Washrooms are equipped with all facilities for such customers so that the hotel caters to all segments of the public.
So far Shangri La has hired 700 workers from Sri Lanka and will look to hire more.
The hotel will also include seven restaurants which includes the famous Shang Palace restaurant which serves some of the world’s best dim sum’s. Four of the most well experienced Chinese chefs will lead the kitchen in Shang Palace while their all day dining restaurant ‘Table One’ will serve a wide variety of cuisines from 6.30 am to 12 midnight. The Executive Chef, Paul, is one of the best Chefs. He originates from Germany.
The first guest that checked into the Hotel was Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez.
