Colombo, May 21 (Newswire) – Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam today slammed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for betraying the public protesting at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
Speaking in Parliament today, MP Shanakiyan said Ranil Wickremesinghe has betrayed the entire nation in order to become the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for the 6th time.
At a time when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was close to resigning from his post, Ranil Wickremesinghe accepted the post of Prime Minister without any conditions and without the knowledge of his own party members.
The appointment was made, when all opposition parties, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, and TNA, had rejected offers to join the government until Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned from his post of President, he revealed.
MP Shanakiyan said that Ranil Wickremesinghe is now making announcements as the Prime Minister stating that he is revealing the true state of the nation when the same facts have been stated by the opposition over the last 1 year.
“We expected the Prime Minister to say he has spoken with foreign nations and will end the gas shortage in 3 weeks, petrol shortage in a month, and medicine shortage in the next couple of months. But instead, he has said the same old facts of no petrol and that hardship will continue for the next three months,” he said.
Stating that Ranil Wickremesinghe should have accepted the post of Prime Minister after striking a deal to address the issues in the country, MP Shanakiyan said instead, the Prime Minister accepted the post to save the Rajapaksa family.
MP Shanakiyan further challenged Ranil Wickremesinghe to reveal to the public the deal he had struck with the Rajapaksa family to be appointed as Prime Minister.
“The first deal you struck was to bring out President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who was hidden in a bunker. The second was to help Mahinda Rajapaksa and his son Namal Rajapaksa who were hidden in Trincomalee to attend Parliament. You also helped Basil Rajapaksa show his hold on the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna through the vote to elect a new Deputy Speaker,” he said lashing out at the Prime Minister.
MP Shanakiyan added that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has struck a deal with the Rajapaksas to cause division among the public protesting at the ‘GotaGoHome” site at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
