Colombo, April 3 (newsin.asia) – Operations at Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International airport, located in the outskirts of Colombo came to a standstill on Tuesday as several airport employees launched an indefinite strike demanding for higher salaries.
According to local media reports, passengers were inconvenienced and found it difficult to enter and leave the airport as protesting employees had blocked the main roads leading to the airport.
The entrance and exit to the VIP Lounge had also been blocked by the protesters whilst travelers complained of being stranded inside.
Officials at the airport said employees had resorted to a strike after talks between the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited and the Airport employees trade unions failed on Tuesday morning.
