Colombo, May 12 (AdaDerana) – The Leader of the United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremesinghe has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
Wickremesinghe took oath before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House this evening (May 12).
MP Wickremesinghe lost the Parliamentary Elections in 2020, but was later elected to Parliament through the UNP’s solitary National List seat. He had previously served as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka five times.
He served as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 1993 to 1994, 2001 to 2004, 2015 to 2015 (100 days), 2015 to 2018, and 2018 to 2019.
Ranil Wickremesinghe has led the United National Party and served as Leader of the Opposition from 1994 to 2001 and 2004 to 2015.
MP Wickremesinghe will take over as Prime Minister from Mahinda Rajapaksa, who resigned on Monday.
