Colombo, May 12 (Daily Mirror): Following yesterday’s talks with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to be named Prime Minister soon, according to the Daily Mirror.
In his discussion with Mr. Wickremesinghe, the president urged that he get the backing of all parties in Parliament in order to form an interim unity government.
MPs Dallas Alahapperuma and Nimal Siripala de Silva were previously considered for the position.
According to reliable sources, the president believes that the premiership should be offered to a member of the opposition to reduce political tensions in the country.
If Mr. Wickremesinghe can assemble the required number of supporters, the president wants to appoint the Cabinet within a day or two.
