Colombo, May 10: Anti-government protesters on monday demonstrated in front of a resort in Trincomalee run by the Sri Lankan navy, in which former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is believed to have taken shelter from mob violence in Colombo and some other parts of Sri Lanka.
The demonstrators demanded Rajapaksa’s arrest. He had resigned from the Premiership on Monday.

He had to be rescued from his official residence Temple Trees by the army after mobs tried to storm in. He was flown out to the safety of Trincomalee in Eastern Sri Lanka.
Mobs burnt down his ancestral home in Medamulana in South Sri Lanka. About 53 houses of former government ministers, ruling party MPs and local ruling party leaders were attacked or burnt on Monday by anti-government elements.
