Colombo, August 19 (NewsWire) – Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says he spoke to former President of Afganistan Hamid Karzai to inquire about the ongoing development unfolding in Afghanistan.
Hamid Karzai served as the President of Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014. He is currently involved in negotiations with Taliban on formation of a new Government.
“Spoke to the Former President of Afghanistan to inquire about the ongoing developments unfolding in his country and reaffirmed SriLanka’s continued support to the People of Afghanistan” Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa tweeted.
The Taliban took control of the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday following a rout of the U.S.-backed Afghan army as foreign forces withdrew from Afghanistan.
