Colombo, April 23 (newsin.asia) – Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva announced today (April 23) that there will be no lockdowns imposed over the island during this weekend.
Although, he strongly urged the members of the public to limit their travels and to stay home as much as possible.
Kuliyapitiya police area was also isolated from midnight yesterday (April 22). The isolation order is in effect until further notice.
Earlier in the day, two Grama Niladhari Divisions in Wariyapola area of Kurunegala District have been isolated with effect from 7.00 am today (April 23).
Sri Jayewardenepura University’s Immunology and Molecular Medicine Department Director Dr. Chandima Jeewandara said the spike in youth cases has been noted after the April New Year festive season.
According to the Daily Mirror, he said research is underway to identify the strain of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka, with the B.1.411 Sri Lankan lineage, which is the predominant SARS-COV2 virus, being reported at present.
