13th May, Colombo (Lankadeepa): According to the Lankadeepa, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has created a special committee to propose immediate measures to alleviate the shortage of vital products in Sri Lanka and bring relief to the population.
Vajira Abeywardena, Chairman of the United National Party (UNP), and Palitha Range Bandara, Secretary of the party, have been nominated to the committee to undertake negotiations with key sectors in order to ensure that necessary food items are available to the public without shortage.
Ruwan Wijewardena, the deputy UNP leader, has been assigned to lead discussions on the drug shortage.
UNP Assistant Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam will speak on fertilizer concerns.
UNP National Organizer Sagala Ratnayake will speak about issues concerning the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC).
The committee will hold necessary discussions with their assigned sectors and address the issues in a report to the Prime Minister.
