Colombo, August 6 (newsin.asia): The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called his Sri Lankan counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa, on the phone and congratulated him on his party’s victory in the Sri Lankan parliamentary elections held on August 5.
Tweeting to Modi thereafter, Rajapaksa expressed thanks for the congratulatory phone call and said: “ With the strong support of the people of SriLanka, I look forward to working with you closely to further enhance the long-standing cooperation between our two countries. Sri Lanka & India are friends & relations.”
Replying to it, Modi tweeted: “ Thank you, Prime Minister! It was a pleasure to speak to you. Once again, many congratulations. We will work together to further advance all areas of bilateral cooperation and to take our special ties to ever newer heights.”
