Colombo, August 17 (NewsWire) – The expansion of the stretch of roads on Marine Drive in Colombo, up to Steuart Place in Colpetty and from Wellawatte to Station Road in Dehiwala, has reached the final stages.
The roads are being expanded to reduce the traffic congestion reported on Marine Drive and the Galle Road in Colombo.

Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando provided an update on the expansion project during a progress review meeting that was held today.
The stretch of road on Marine Drive that will be expanded up to Steuart Place in Colpetty will be 600 meters in distance and will consist of four lanes, while it is being constructed at a cost of Rs 220 million, the Minister said.
Minister Fernando further said the expansion of the road from Wellwattte to Station Road Dehiwala will be 1.2 KM in distance and will also consist of four lanes, while it is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 420 million.
The entire stretch covers 7.8 km from Steuart Place to Dehiwala via Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya and Mount Lavinia.
