Colombo, May 1 (newsin.asia): Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said in his May Day speech here on Wednesday, that he would protect Sri Lanka from terrorism even at the risk of his life.
Addressing the May Day rally of his Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Sirisena said that the sorrow that has engulfed the hearts of all Sri Lankans due to the April 21 tragedy should turn into strength to eliminate terrorism from the country.
The President said that as a nation all Sri Lankans must unite under a one flag with a firm determination to establish peace in the country, while eliminating terrorism.
President Sirisena said that the safety of every Sri Lankan has already been established. Foreign expertise is also being used to fight terrorism.
He revealed that he has received the interim report of the committee appointed by him on April 22 to report on the blasts in which 253 people including 40 nationals were killed.
The President said that he is going to discuss the report with the Attorney General on Thursday and take “immediate action”.
