Mumbai, May 25 (newsin.asia): While a section of Bollywood is engaged in a twitter war against “traitors” and “Pakistani agents”, a Bollywood film which has a Pakistani actress in the lead is doing roaring business at the box office.
The ban on Pakistani artistes imposed by the thuggish Shiv Sena some months ago has apparently been lifted, unofficially. Shiv Sainiks, who had forced film makers to abandon employing Pakistani artistes and made Karan Johar swear that he will not employ Pakistanis again, are turning a blind eye to the exhibition of Hindi Medium starring Indian actor Irrfan Khan and Pakistani actress Saba Qamar.
But the politically ambitious “nationalists” in the industry have not given up their pernicious campaign. They are targeting fellow Indian celebrities with a different political view.
Popular singer Sonu Nigam on Wednesday quit Twitter, urging all “logical and sensible patriots” to do the same after the rabidly anti-Pakistani singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s account on thet micro-blogging site was suspended for posting offensive tweets.
“I quit Twitter today in defiance of this one sided sham,” Nigam tweeted.
“One could disagree with Abhijeetda’s language but isn’t Shehla’s accusation that BJP has a sex racket, provocation enough to supporters?”
“If his account is deleted, why not her? And the other morons who hurl… abuses to every achiever?” Nigam tweeted.
In a series of 24 posts, Nigam opened up about various remarks made by people on Twitter, including veteran actor-BJP MP Paresh Rawal’s controversial comments on author and rights activist Arundhati Roy.
Rawal had said that activists Roy and Sagarika Ghose should be tied to a jeep and paraded just as the Kashmiri young man Farooq Dar was paraded through nine villages from morning till night in Kashmir in the Indian army’s bid to tackle Kashmiri youth who throw stones at Indian troops with a human shield. Instead of tying stone pelter on the army jeep tie Arundhati Roy !” Rawal tweeted.
On Tuesday, twitter had suspended the account of Abhijeet over sexist and offensive remarks, which stirred up a storm online.
In a series of tweets, Abhijeet abused some women users, particularly JNU student-activist Shehla Rashid, following which Twitter took the action.
When Shehla openly discussed sex scandals involving BJP leaders, she was “abused by Abhijeet and hundreds of Sanghi trolls”.
In reply to her statement, Abhijeet posted an offensive tweet about Shehla.
Nigam was earlier in the news for demanding a ban on loudspeakers during azaan.
Meanwhile Hindi Medium released on May 19, has been getting rave reviews in both India and Pakistan.
A Pakistani paper The Herald Tribune said that without a doubt, B-town’s famous critics are praising the illustrious guru, Irrfan Khan. But even Saba Qamar’s exemplary mentions in various reviews prove that this leading lady has won hearts across the border.
“The actress seems to have played her part well. As the wife of Khan, she essays an on-point performance in the romantic comedy. Unlike Mahira Khan’s rushed screen presence in Raees with various scenes chopped off from the reel, Saba has ample screen time in the movie to deliver her character.”
Movie buffs are already choosing Hindi Medium over the Shradda-Arjun starrer Half Girlfriend. It is even being predicted that Hindi Medium might be able to defeat Bahubali 2 that is minting a massive collection at the box-office.
The film has been declared tax-free in Maharashtra and Gujarat – Indian states known for their anti-Pakistani Hindu nationalism.
