Colombo, January 25 (newsin.asia): Two persons, one a Sri Lankan and the other a Chinese, were admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) here on Saturday after they showed ‘some symptoms’ of the coronavirus which has affected hundreds of people in China and some other countries, local media quoting the Health Ministry, said.
Ministry officials said that the Sri Lankan is a student and the Chinese is a tourist who had arrived here from Wuhan.
They had shown some symptoms of the coronavirus such as a cold and sore throat but whether this is coronavirus is yet to be confirmed, the officials said.
The two patients are being monitored by a team of medical specialists and their test results have been sent to the Medical Research Institute.
“Once we receive the final results we will be able to give out more information and confirm if the two are infected with the coronavirus. They are both in a stable condition,” a Health Ministry official said.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, on Saturday directed the country’s Foreign Secretary and Sri Lanka’s national air carrier, Sri Lankan Airlines, to take steps to bring back all Sri Lankan students and nationals in Wuhan. The city has been sealed by Chinese officials amidst a rising number of pneumonia cases there.
The government said there are over 40 Sri Lankan nationals in Wuhan, either studying in universities or employed.
