Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) – Former Maldives President and present Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed who was injured in a blast on Thursday evening remains in critical condition in intensive care after being treated for multiple injuries.
The ADK Hospital in Maldives, where Nasheed was rushed to said in a message on its official twitter account that the former President underwent life saving surgery on injuries to his head, chest, abdomen and limbs within the past 16 hours and now remains in critical condition. The hospital also said that Nasheed underwent a successful final, critical, life-saving procedure this afternoon.

Police in Maldives said that the explosion which occurred from a device attached to a motorbike, took place when Nasheed was about to get into his car on Thursday evening.
The Maldives Police have termed it a ‘deliberate act of terror’ while unverified claims and reports have surfaced suggesting that the Islamic State terror organization may be responsible for the explosion. (Jamila Husain)
