If you’ve been on the hunt for restaurants with healthy alternatives to fast food, Bowl’d is a great choice! This little spot is almost hidden at the very far end of Sea Avenue, Colombo 003, and we had been wanting to check it out for quite a while. We are so glad we did! Here’s how our visit on a Saturday went:
What We Ordered:
– 1 Small Shoyu Tofu Bowl (Rs.700)
– 1 Small Chicken Teriyaki Bowl (Rs.800)
– 1 Large Chicken Teriyaki Bowl (Rs.900)
– 1 Strawberry Watermelon Limeade (Rs.250)
– 1 Mango Nana Bowl (Rs.330)
Drinks: The drink arrived first and it was love at first sip! The Strawberry Watermelon Limeade had the perfect thickness & sweetness. It really stayed true to its name, as it tasted like the perfect blend of strawberries, watermelon, and lime. Also props for the bamboo straw!
Poke Bowls: Yum. This was when things got even better. We ordered 1 Small Shoyu Tofu Bowl & 2 Teriyaki Chicken Bowls – with the red rice option. Loved everything about these!
The flavour of everything was incredible and the ingredients balanced each other amazingly well. If you’re a fan of healthy food you will love this even more.
You are given the option of Sushi Rice, Red Rice & Zoodles (zucchini) for the base of the dish and they also offer customizable bowls, so that you can pick out exactly what you want.
Nana Bowl: Perhaps it was because our expectations for dessert were (unfairly) over the roof at this point, following the incredible three mains and drink, but the Mango Nana Bowl seemed to slightly pale in comparison. While the texture was great, the home-made mango ice cream would have tasted better with a wee bit more sweetness & flavour. The coconut flakes & granola were really nice and complimented the ice cream quite well, which made up for any fallbacks.
The Ambience: The place is a bit small but very very nice. There is outdoor seating as well, with a few cozy-looking swing seats outside. The staff is very friendly and accommodating which made our visit even better.
